Brussels

As you may already know, Brussels is the capital of the country, and it is the most popular Erasmus destination in Belgium.

However, you have to know that the cost of living is relatively high. But still, it is a city that is completely worth it. This city is famous for hosting the European Parliament and other institutions of the European Union, but it is much more than all that.

Brussels has plenty of monuments worth visiting, and streets and neighborhoods to wander around and get lost in. Brussels is also home to some of the most prestigious universities in the country, such as the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Université Libre de Bruxelles), or the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Ghent

This is the third largest city in Belgium. It has about 250,000 inhabitants, and it is said that about 60,000 of them are students. Therefore, you can imagine that Ghent is one of the most popular cities in the country for Erasmus, receiving hundreds of students every year.

In this city there are several universities, among them Ghent University (Ghent University) and Ghent University of Applied Sciences and Arts, better known as HoGent, both being the most important universities in the city.

Leuven

Leuven (Leuven) is a university city located just 50 kilometers from the capital of the country. With only 100,000 inhabitants, it is one of the most popular destinations in Belgium and this is mainly due to the KU Leuven University, which is one of the oldest universities in the world (founded in 1425), and also one of the most prestigious universities in Belgium and Europe.

The fact that there are so many students in this city makes for an incredible student atmosphere, with students from all over the world. Being a student city you will find that there are many offers and discounts for students. Also, being a relatively small city, you will be able to get around on foot without any problems, which will allow you to save on public transportation.

Liège (Liége)

In fourth place we have Liège, a city that is close to the borders with Germany and the Netherlands, and where the University of Liège (Universitè de Liège) is located. The proximity of this destination to other countries will allow you to travel and discover other cities almost every weekend for little time and money. For example, in half an hour by train you can be in Maastricht (Netherlands), in twenty minutes in Aachen (Germany) or in just over two hours in major German cities such as Cologne or Düsseldorf.

Although this is a small city, every year students from all over the world come here. The student atmosphere is very good and the student associations organize frequent events, parties and trips with the students, so you will not get bored.

Antwerp

Last but not least is Antwerp, the second largest city in the country.

During your Erasmus in Antwerp you will see that this city has many places to visit and enjoy, among them its historical center with antiquity from the Middle Ages. Here we also recommend you to visit the Grote markt, where the bronze fountain of Silvius Brabo stands out, the Cathedral of Antwerp or the Church of St. Charles Borromeo, among many other places.

And as it is not all about cultural visits, you should know that in Antwerp you will find a wide range of bars, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs to go out any day of the week, and drink one of the famous Belgian craft beers. All this makes Antwerp has a very active nightlife and student life.
